I've got quite a few questions about my ink drawings so I've decided to tell a little something about it
I haven't worked much in ink yet but I definitely enjoy it. It gives a special rough and dark look which I really like. However it's hard to handle and not erasable.
If you want to try it out I recommend you just have a go for it and not think about making something really pretty, at least to begin with, cause it's almost impossible.
I use an ink type from Winsor& Newton, which works fine for me. It wasn't that expensive, only about 5 $. Along with it I use a broken brush.
I don't have a special technique for it really. I use the brush, shading in all kind of directions. If you want to have a lighter shading put only a little bit of ink on it and stroke the pencil against a piece of paper before adding it to your drawing, it will take some of the colour away and prevent your drawing from getting all black. It is however a question of being lucky I think cause sometimes it will be too black where you didn't intend and there is no way back.
With that being said I definitely think you should try it out, for me it's a nice addition to my normally detailed and smoother portraits.
