I use tissue paper. I don't know why they would be telling you not to use smudging materials in school. Maybe that's why I hated high school art classes.

Actually, I've used alot of different things to smudge and tissue/toilet paper is the best I've found so far. Haven't tried chamois cloth yet though.

Haha, use Charmin, cha cha cha.

No, I don't know, I use kleenex facial tissues. Make sure you use tissues without lotion or aloe though cuz moisture could mess up a drawing. You just smudge the graphite with it, I don't know if there's a method to it. I just rub back and forth (that sounds dirty).

This is becomming a dirty thread ...
I also use tissues but I prefer cotton-pads over any other smudging tool, at least when it comes to shading bigger parts

Yeah my highschool art teacher hated it when anyone used tissues to blend with. She wanted us all to use those tortillions(sp?). She had a whole drawer full of those and blending stumps But i guees her forcing me to use them has made me use only that and the occasional tissue for larger areas. It doesn't matter how you use the tissue on your drawing as long as you get your desired effect.

yep same here my art teacher told me never to smudge at all, with any tool....she said it was "cheating." but i do now anyway haha...

ive never used toilet roll though....i dont actually blend very often, i prefer not to, but if i do need to i have a special tool i bought from an art shop called a "stump" its like a pencil but it has no lead in it, but its in a pencil shape and the end is soft, like very very very very tightly rolled cotton wool....

im not entirely sure what its made of, but if you go to an art shop and ask for a stump then youll see what i mean. theyre really good.
