I wouldn't say it's almost finished. I think you need to work more on the color, because the leaves don't catch a lot of light. I think it would come out better if you add more contrast. The proportions are really good.

Is that acrylic? Anyway, I think it's awesome but I have to agree with luna about the light.

Here is the finished version.

All my paintings are made with oil paint. The picture I made of the painting is darker than the real thing. But it's still darker than some of you would like I guess.
I wanted to make a darker rose after I made a first one a few moths ago as you can see beneeth.

Keep those opinions coming but be gentle

I like your rose painting! I'll admit that I like the darker rose better, the color just seems more intense and powerful. Did you use a picture as a reference or a rose in real life?

I usually work with acryllic paints - I haven't tried oils yet so if you have any good advice, let me know. I've heard oils are alot harder to work with....

I would love to see more paintings from you - maybe something again with vibrant colors. Do you also do abstract?

Good stuff!

Answer time

how big is it? The dark rose is 70cmx100cm, the lighter one measures 40cmx50cm

Used a picture as a reference. Always do.

Acryllics versus oils, I would love to tell you the differences but I haven't painted with acryllics myself. Some tips I can give you when working with oils :
- Repect the dry time, Oils take much longer to dry than acryllics. When I paint with layers I always respect a dry time of around 3 days (when you thined the paint) and a whole week when you use oils without thining them.

- Try to paint in layers, start with a base where you use very thined oils, after that you can put a thinker coat and then finish it off with a last layer.

Overal I don't think they are harder to work with but I can't really compare.

For more paintings you can always check my site, it's up and running again after 2 days down www.angelsart.be or lcik on the www at the end of my post.
I will also be posting more and more of my paintings here.

Only when I feel strong emotions I try to paint abstract paintings, but it's not often I do that. For the moment I love to paint roses and I have some picture references ready for 2 more paintings.

thanks for all positive comments so far
