Default Coal and water?

I read on the paggage my coalsticks came in, that you can use brushes on the coal with water after you have applied the coal. Is this something anyone in here have tried? How does it look? I got nu brushes at home so I can not try it. But I thought that maybee this can give me the bloodeffect I am looking for to use on my horrordrawing.

ive never tried it, but you could test it on some scrap paper to see if it works...

another really neat thing to do with charcoal, is instead of using paper, get a peice of velvet from a fabric store...real velvet, not crushed velvet....it gives the drawing a really soft effect. when i go home for the holidays i'll take a picture of the one i did and post it to show you...

I'm wondering if Simon ever got around to trying this technique out ... and what the results were ...?

I mean smudge the coal with baby oil

I have got some pitt pastell pencils and in the "booklet" they give this as a hint to get dark colour... I never tried at coal but at graphit... it works but ain't to easy.

Today I tested coal vs water. First I made a try on the same type of paper as I am drawing the horrorpic on. I found the result nice, specially for the "dirty" effect I was looking for. Tha water does the area surrounding the coal dirty and darker, not as dark as I thought it would be but... And the paper did lift on the wet area for a while but when it got dry the paper was flat again.

As a thought it looked interesting I did allso use water/coal on the horrordrawing. The blood on her left cheek is now made by coal and water. And I think it looks pretty nice. I did not do the blood from her mouth with water bacause it looks more clean and soft, and i got satisfied making that part of the blood with graphite. I have done more than half of the drawing now and I am hoping of getting it done this or next week.

Helena: I think I will try your tip sometime too

I have heard of people using linseed oil also, instead of baby oil.
