Is digital photgraphy a good or bad thing?
I have always been a keen photographer and will never part with my trusty 35mm SLR camera, but will digital pictures ever beat the quality of print or slide film? Does anyone else have any opinions on this subject?

I have a small digital camera as well as a normal camera....and even though the digicam has its uses, I have to admit that I prefer the regular cam....
I mean its cool to be able to see the photos at once, but the quality is not always up to standard....I cant see any other advantage to having a digicam...

Well, I love my digital camera, though the resolution is very low/bad.
I think that someday the quality of the digital cameras will be as good as normal cameras. I hope so /Zindy |

Some of the proffesionals use those really expensive digital cameras. We had a guy videotape a few theatre plays that I was in and he used a digital video camera. Turned out great, including the resolution. I'm looking forward to the future, like Zindy, but I still rely on the older and more reliable equipment.

despite the fact that the future and the technology in years to come is breathing down our necks, there is something nice, almost nostalgic about using an ordinary camera....
But ok..I can see the advantages of a digicam..

The old cameras are still the best at present. Think i'll wait until the digital cameras drop in price before i switch over

I find that digicams are like computers....the latest thing costs a bundle, whereas if you wait a year or so then you can basically get them for half the price if not cheaper...
I agree though they are expensive..

I also agree with Nina, there is something that builds up inside your very soul when you use the reliable equipment. The kind of equipment that your fathers and their fathers used. It makes you feel that much more reliable yourself.
Considering that the further implementation of technology and computers means the downfall of our own thinking because the easier your job is made by a computer made by someone else, the less you have to think about how you can do it yourself. But there are many flip sides to this coin of a debate. |

Well, for me it's a matter of what I need the pictures for. If I take pictures of my family and friends to put on my wall of photoalbum, I would definetely use my normal camera. But, if I need some pictures of myself or something else for the net, I would definetely use my digi cam, because it's so much easier and the quality is so much better when I just put the disk in my computer, instead of scanning the regular photos.
Maybe I'm just strange but I really like digital cameras. I hate those big cameras with a huge flash upon it. I have such one too but I never use it. I like it simple and new Maybe I'm just not that traditional.. For me it's not important that you used it in the old days. The comment about that you don't have to think for yourself, because the technolegy makes it so easy... I mean, the important thing when you take picture must be your motive/image and not what you take the picture with, or is it just me?? |

Your right in that aspect. The important thing is your motive. I'm just old fashioned most of the time. I know that now-a-days you can get a computer to do just about anything for you. And I am very much excited as to what these machines and computers can do. And I would help to further the developement of these great feats.
But what happens when our technology advances so much and our powerful technological toys take all our time and efforts that a man forgets to eat his lunch and dinner because he can't fix his microwave. (This is a far-fetched example) I think we should start from the beginning and work our way up to those kinds of developements. For me, I learn welding and home construction. I learned how to dig a ditch, start a fire and cook on it, how to utilize my clothing to keep me warmer in the winter, how to run a distance and not be tired or out of breath after the first ten minutes, how to read and write and think, etc. From their, I can live. And after that come the greater technologies and advancement in computers. Then I appreciate what those computers can do when it would take me much longer to do the same thing. Sorry for the lenghty explaination. |
