Question To Trace or Not To Trace, That is the Debate

I've been noticing many more artists using the trace and transfer method for some of their paintings. I've never done it because I wanted to familiarize myself with freehanding. However, there are days where I don't have the patience to freehand a sketch AND keep the inspiration for the painting so my desire wanes about half way through and I stop. Or, worse, I don't paint because the thought of freehanding every little detail is exhausting, especially after a full day of chores, college, etc.

So here's my question -
Do you trace or do you freehand? Which do you prefer more?

Tracing is a TOOL, just like gridding. If it works for you, use it. The shading, creativity and such will make the work. I'm a freehander... Just make a few sketches and trace the good one over. It works if you don't get the proportions right. But letting a drawing be dependent on tracing is rather boring.
