hmm newbie at colored pencils :<

hello zindy ,, hello every one ,, long time didnt visit the forum sry ,, well my reason for posting this thread is "i need help" with colored pencils ,, i used to draw with pencils , every sense i draw i always use pencil i mean shading and these stuff , i didnt try to color ,, but now i felt like "c'mon lets start with something new!!" so im -now- coloring with colored pencils and i really love them <3 ,, my problem is .. well first of all my way in painting with colored pencils is i first draw the sketch with pencil then start painting it ,, okay ,, so the problem when i paint i cant get rid of the pencils lines.. the outlines u know .. so i use markers to define it -the whole subject-,, and its bothering me ,. so how do i solve it? i cant define using the colored pencils ,i mean it wont give me sharp lines u know , i hope u get what im trying to say >>>

thank u for ur time :>

Hmmm im not sure what you meant ... do you hatch with colored pencils? or you paint and use colored pencils only for outlines? If you paint, I say forget about the clasic pencils, and try out some watercolor pencils ... they are like ordinary colored pencils, just that you can take a wet brush and start brushing over the colored pencil value... And to control the outlines you can use a piece of paper to protect the zone you desire not to brush.

well i have faber castel watercolore pencils ,,but i prefer colored pencils ,, what i mean that when i start painting my artwork the colored pencils cant remove the pencils marks that i started the artwork with ,, u know when u sketch u sketch with pencil and that what i do ,,and then u paint it ,, so in order to get rid of the pencil marks i use markers and it dosent give a natural look :< i well post some of my artwork to see what i mean ..
and thank u

I think that you press to hard on the outlines.. you should use a rubber to temper them before you start to value. But if you draw the outline by marker, you will not be able to temper it. Just throw those markers away .. nobody uses markers in portraits.. or at least i never saw anyone doing that.. The value should make all the drawing. I don't know why you put so much accent on the outlines, they should not even be seen in a drawing.. You only draw them to help you keep the proportions correct .. they don't have any correspondence in reality. Use the pencil without to press to hard. Noboy wants to see the outlines

I think I understand you, so here's what you do, you sketch with normal pencils, then you use the rubber and erase the part you are gonna start drawing (I use a kneaded eraser cause its easier and it doesnt erase completely so i still have some guide lines, but you can do it with a normal one), anyway you have to be careful cause when you use color with the graphite pencils the graphite gets really dark and almost impossible to erase (I do erase a bit of color sometimes xD). What that your doubt?

I like how you made that discreet red hatch on the chick The skin tone seems ok .. what colors did you mix to obtain the skin tone? You can use some darker tones to make the shadows.. coz i see no shadows in your drawing which makes it a little unrealistic. But it's more than good for a beginner I'm not advanced in portraits neither, keep up the good work
