Joane, I just ordered a few prints of the drawings that were presents and of which I don't have the original piece. If you are still interested in a print of 'dancer', let me know
Again a new drawing^^ 'True Beauty' ![]() I hope she's recognizable.. it ought to be Maria aka Moldova ^^ I really love her beautiful eyes which is why I picked this photo of her. Sadly, I ruined the lips and the scan ruined the shading a bit :/ Let me know what you think about it! much love, Esther <3

Hello lovely,
I find her very very recognisable and YES she is so stunning (like you even better with the short hair, Maria!). I don't think you ruined the lips at all, they look amazing. The shading overall is very soft and just lovely, great great great (!) highlights too. An amazing progress my dear- you captured her likeness and expression so well and the technical aspects like shading and proportion are perfect! <3 Some advice on minor (!) stuff: - the shapes of her irises are different, the one of her right eye (from our view) seems a bit off, it's too far into the corner of her eye and not quite even - same with her inner eyelid, the lines on both eyes are tiny bit out of shape and have a few "dents" (this sounds weird but I dunno how to explain it otherwise) - the whole drawing is so perfect that I really think you should smudge the dark background in the lower left corner a little more so it looks as neat as the rest And YES I'm still really keen for that dancer print |

She is definitely recognizable. It is a good drawing and it feels good, nothing less. I do want to add you some insight. Joane made some points on the iris-part. I know where this come from, cause I've observed the photo. Do not forget photos bring unnatural things. On other photos and in reallife it is round; nearly always. Some shades can make it look oval. Your dark-edge stretch in the eyes transfer too sudden to the main iris. Use a subtle tone stretch. There are tones in the eyewhite as well. The mouth has a minor problem and is not as bad as you think. The viewers right is a little too short. Force the mouthcorner slightly to the right, and make the right upperlip a little thicker. The subtle shadings that define the nose and cheackzones are balanced, yet they can use a little stronger tone. The hair has a great resolution. I have the same thing; but I want to give something that was giving me a hard time to learn: loose details where necessary where the hairstrands cross on the hair that will go underneath. Expose the details where it comes in the front, just before and after the highlite. Contrast the hairstands more to give dimension to the hair. As the faceline gets a narrow shade, increase the shades-tone.
Dare a bit more overall shading and a little more tone ranges. If you worry the face is getting darker, you simply shade the hair darker, as Maria has black hair. (or at least: very dark brown). Last edited by Cold Shiva : 05-04-2012 at 08:02 PM. |

Totally looks like Maria. You can see that right away. I like how light it is, gives it a special feel. All I want to add is perhaps a bit longer darker eyelids and it would be super

Joana, Cold_Shiva and Zindy thank you very much for the detailed advice, very appreciated! dealing with the detailing is still something I have to work on ^^
I also have a new drawing: "The Tortoise" ![]() It's my grandpa, who passed away this night. We were very close, especially my childhood-memories are full with my grandparents. First thing I wanted to do today was to draw a portrait of him.... I guess that's my way of coping with his death.

Sorry to hear that Esthi, I hope you are okey...
He looked like such a gentle man, you captured something in his looks. Do you blend with your fingers on this drawing? Charcoal would have been fantastic for his clothing. |

Thank you Zindy! yes, I'm okey.. he has been ill for a longer time, so we kind of expected this day to come.. still, it's very sad. He was a very caring man indeed!
I usually blend with tissues and cotton buds, but in this drawing I only used tortillions. I'm still very afraid of using charcoal becausse it's such a definite medium which cannot be erased that good.. I think I would leave my fingerprints all over the drawing

Again, Esthi, thanks so much for drawing me!
You don't know how many of my friends were like "OMG LOOK, SOMEONE DREW YOU! WOW!!! It's so realistic!" I was very proud to say that my friend did it! ♥ Thanks again! And I am dearly sorry about your grandpa. I think the drawing is a beautiful way to commemorate him. Based on the photo, he seems like he was a very gentle man. My love to you and your family, girl;! ♥ ♥ ♥
