New Forum?

I have been wanting a new forum for a very long time now. Mainly because this one we've had for 6-7 years and we need something new and fresh to look at I feel
Aside from that it was hacked a few times which messed up some things. Upgrading this current one costs 200$ which is a bit too much I think.
+ there is just so much spam all the time taking quite a while to delete. I don't know how to avoid this in the long run, I just know I delete between 5-10 spam users a day.

My question is do you know of any good/interesting forums which is free or at least cheaper than upgrading this current one? We are looking for options and hope to get the new forum up and running this autumn. It would be great to have something new to play with wouldn't it?

I don't mind having a new forum or staying with this one. I guess both options seem great to me
however, 200$ seems too much to me as well so if you find a better free forum, go for it!
can't wait to see whatever you'll come up with, I'm gettind addicted to the forum

Yes, it's way too much and I would rather try something new to be honest. It's not going to be that different but hopefully it will give more freedom as zz is also moving to a new server soon Lots of changes this fall =)

well, as I said, it doesn't bother me at all! fresh start, all those not-active members won't be on the new forum and I quite like it, actually! I think the ZZ 'family' is composed by quite a few members and those are the ones that really care

Thanks for searching forums, it seems very simple but I will see what I choose to go with. We might go back to the forum type we had 8 years ago but a new version of it, which was free too, we'll see

Hi - I am only new, but I have my forum at Proboards and like it even though they could do with adding some widgets etc ... skins are easy to create too. Another good one is http://www.forumotion.net/ - they have a nice portal, and easy to set up

Or you can install the SimpleMachines forum on you server. This forum is also free, and really easy to manage.

I don't know how you can keep off the spammers. I suppose you could check if the website provider lets you able to block IP/ISP-addresses once you've kicked them. Let them activate their account so you've got the link. Manage posting history and that sort of crap.
