wow I have that same problem it agravats me so much, this semester at school Ive been trying to draw things of my own and they come out ok, not as good as I wish because, my best work is done when looking at other pictures than my own mind.

what I do if I want to practice from my mind is I start out with a random shape and biuld to to it, like last night for instance I started to draw a x7 speed bullet bike, I was doing a bad job, it was like 3am, anyways I saw a fine edge to it and built it into a weird looking building thing with cells. The more practice you have with randome shapes I think the better you will get so if you are like me just come up with random ideas dumb or not in the end they are all worth it. (sorry for bad punctuation and spelling errors)
