Default Patience?

Ok, I am very confused at the moment. My art teacher says the best way to do figure and hand drawings is by doing them really fast so you can learn to pick-up certain aspects faster. Now, does that mean I should be doing my portraits really fast too? I usually do ALL my drawings: figures, portraits, and hands with extreme patience.

Because of school, i've taken up to one month (an hour or two each day) to complete a portrait, and a up to two weeks to complete a figure drawing. The reason is because of shading (for the most part). Now, should I try to convince myself to do these drawings faster, or should I stick to taking my time and being patient?

What's better if I want to accelerate my progression?

Take ur time is what I say..

My teachers use to tell me to loosen up, in their minds I draw with a stiff arm, but in my mind I have to do this in order to get proportions correct, I never listened to them, and I feel I have become a better artist, becos of my own instincts ^^

Hi .. Moudy

I say : do your best to get the best , don't look at the time . if you seek the beauty and you want to become faster in the same time , you must draw with accuracy and with quiet weather . don't listen to the music or watching tv through draw .

I think I know what they mean. When you do some very fast sketches in a very short time, again and again you do learn to see and understand things quite fast(I've tried it). However, in order to get good results with portraits I definitely would say take your time. The fast ones are only good for practise and learning the basics. Great portraits are done with patience, practise and time.
