heya!! im doing an essay for school about the size 0 craze thats happening right now. i just wondered what everyones opinions about it are!! personally i am against it because some models have died from eating disorders and they can influence teen girls who think they are fat because they are a normal size. but i think that although the models are to thin it is not just thier fault. the agencies tell these girls that they could become the best if they lose weight and i feel that the girls need help not critism. anyway i just wondered what everyone opinions on this subject is!!!:D

I think its disgusting. I watch shows like "americas next top model" and the judges and photographers tell these girls they're STLL too fat even though their bones are sticking out  its so gross. They try walking down the runway being all sexy and its just unhealthy and not very attractive at all. There are plenty of models out there that arent a size 0 and do really well! So why these agencies tell them they need to lose more weight is beyond me. Its like if they have a tiny bit of fat on their stomach, it means they're overweight. Its sad. I kind of agree with you that it isnt all their fault but at the same time it is, they dont have to listen to these agencies, personally if it was me I'd tell them to go to h*ll and work for someone who doesnt mind if I had a little bit of fat on me. I just always love how these agencies tell them they wont make it in modeling unless they're bone skinny and a size 0, cause like I said theres tons of models out there that arent like that. Its weird cause I NEVER see these really skinny girls in the magazines or on commercials, only see them on runways, its usually the models that look healthy and have meat on them that you see everywhere :| I just dont get it.
I heard one country banned skinny models from their runway :) everyone was whining about it being a bad thing, but I think its a good thing. Maybe teach these girls to eat a little more and realize what they're doing is gross and only hurting themselves

I really don't like the super-slim-extra-skinny models... it's so unhealthy, unnatural.. If someone is extra slim, he doesn't have much energy and has weaker muscles, so he or she gets tired quicky, can't do some sports etc. Starving doesn't do any good to your body too. What some do, is a plain body torture, and the result is, that their metabolism can completely collapse.. not good. Modelling seems to be a little too 'twisted' businnes to me.

I agree with artsaves and "namesake" :p. It is dangerously unhealthy and if you varmitt if you eat a pancake or a cheese sandwich, you're really sick! I don't like butt-and breastless women. I've been way too skinny to know what it feels like too. I wonder how it is in real personal lives: what their families and friends suddenly say: "I can play piano on your chest; don't you get/make something to eat at home?". Though the models are denying it, I wonder how they feel alerted, suppressed by childisch fears of loosing status, cause that is what it is all about: that DAMN WORD STATUS! Earning a lot of money and have the title "supermodel ever" only seems to ignore the warningsignals of their bodies. I think if you look deep into their hearts and pierce right through their obsessive boundries to forfill their dreams, I think they are feeling very insecure. Automatically they try to hide to consist this sick eating disorder, but it will drive them downwards even further. I don't like the highly overfeeded and arrogant, but mostly ignorent environment aswell in a way imcold puts it.

hey everyone,
I always thought this world of them was a bit frightning. So self-devastating...And I always wonder how this could have happened when a model is an anorexic. Are there no familiy and friends around? If you see that your daughter/sister/friend or whatever is going downwards, why do they not take some action? why are they all letting it be just like that? I always thought that the ideal woman has te figure which is not common, you know. A couple of centuries ago it was beatiful to be fat, while the most of the people were dying of hunger. Nowadays there is still much hunger in the world, I know, but usually not at places in the world which are in the spotlights. Now the world's facing the problem of too many fat people, the beauty ideal is skinny. Just twisted around. People want to be what they're not. But I do not entirely agree with Imcold, as he says that extra slim people do not have any energy. I have always been very very thin and tried to get fatter but it didn't work out, whatever I did or whoever I saw, a dietist or doctor..they all tell me that I'm eating just fine! But whenever I'm lying on the beach the comments people make are not always that nice, or just insulting, and it even happened that people in my class asked whether I "had some disease?" I've got very much energy, can't sit still for a moment. So don't judge too fast, eh?

I meant excessively skinny people :D I'm quite slim too, I always was and probably will be. There's noone in our family, that I could call 'fat'. Genetic predispositions, I'd say XD. People with fast metabolism tend to be slim too, even if they eat much and often. As a teenager I was almost always hungry and ate very much :D (not that I'd be much older now) Though, I never weighted more than about 72kg, what makes me quite slim with 179cm height, and I usually weight about 67kg. I can't gain weight easily too, only when I work hard physically in offspring during asparagus harvest (yeah, funny xD ) and in summer in building company, and it's because of the muscles, not that I'd gain any fat. When I'm back at school and in winter, I get thinner a bit. If you eat regularly (and healthy), energy is not a problem (the case of most slim people I think)... but if you don't, body starts to gain energy not only from food, but from muscles too. That's when it's becoming really bad. Your body will dramaticaly loose it's mass, soon it can't gain any energy and it leads to collapses and death. :/ Once I had pretty big problems with my stomach, I couldn't eat for few days and hardly drink anything... I lost a lot weight during few days, I was pretty weak, looking like a living zombie and was recupering for 'bout two months from that. If somebody deliberately does something like this to it's body, he/she really needs help.

thank you these opinions are really helpful! these are very strong views and i agree with most of them! i agree that its disgusting for these girls to be allowed to get so thin! where are the parents/freinds etc and these skeletal models/celebs like victoria beckham, nicole richie etc are 'supposedly' the worlds most glamourous women. i think its awful that they are influencing young girls and more and more teens are getting eating disorders because they think skinny is sexy. while i was researching this topic i found out some pretty disturbing and sickening things. like the model Luisel Ramos who died just after coming off the catwalk of heart failure. She had lived on lettuce leaves and diet coke for three months. apparently she lost weight because her agency told her she would 'make it big' if she lost weight. i think that is disgusting how the agencys can stand back and watch these girls killl themselves, just so they can wear clothes. anyway i welcome everybodys views so i will shut up and let evryone else talk because i could rant and rave about this for years. lol

Hey Imcold,
Yeah I already thougth you meant that. But you know, people can be very cruel. Don't you hated it, being skinny? I'm fine with it now and don't even try hard to gain weigth anymore. If i could just reach the 50 Kg (i'm bout 1.74) I can donate blood and that's something I always wanted because I think that's very important, to help people with something I can miss easily. Just 3/4 kg to go!!!
P.s that's really sounding like a nightmare to me, to have such problems with your stomach you cant eat..I will miss by daily portion chocolat so much I couldn't stand it. ;)

hmmmn, super skinny models, don't like the way it's called or rather the reality of it. gosh the world is so corrupted with different bads. those model are heavy bad influences to teenage girls or maybe boys ( woah ). i just can't help but not to look directly for a long time if a stick-thin model is to walk down a runway. its so ugly stick-shaped legs that can be broken anytime, it makes them look like retards. now i'm trying my best to gain weight lol, losing weight is totally out of the question for me O.o hope people are wise enough not to lose too much weight just for other people's pleasure. its like slow torture to death, like you're not supposed to eat this, not supposed to eat that.
how horrible can it get? gets worse until maybe like those people living in african famine locations, hate models with obvious ribcages jutting out. YIKES! being plum is better than stick thin!!!!

Marit: I'm not used to eat chocolate daily :) It would be pretty expensive in my case, because when I eat a piece of chocolate, I can't stop thinking about it and I eat all the chocolate I can find, I just can't resist the taste of it :D It's an obsession in my case, I think xD

haha, know exactly what you mean! But because I live with three sisters and a mother who're all chocolate-fan, there's not much in the house...Perhaps that's why my favourie film is Chocolat.. (Ok, maybe too because I love the story and maybe a little bit because it features Johnny Depp :p)

ha, Johnny Depp is one of my fave actors too :D Though I haven't seen the 'choco' movie.... actually, I haven't seen any (new) movie for few months :/ Who wants to go to cinema? :D

haha, i always want to go to the cinema. Although i wouldn't be sure which movie to chose at the moment. And it has to be on a monday til thursday, then I've got discount! It's a pity altough that it's not very busy on these days, the cinema in my town is absolutely huge (the big positivie thing is a super big screen, one of the biggest in the country) but because of the size it's never really filled with many people, so that's boring i think. Who else lives in holland or will come to holland to see a movie? ;)

I think it's sad and gross the way the world views it. It's sad that you have to be that skinny, as they are portrayed and idolised by so many young people. It really makes you think and belive it's the way to look, and that fat(or just normal) is not accepted. Magazines and television are forming our way of seeing things, making us believe it's beauty to be this way and that it is to strive for. I can only say it has influenced me in so many ways as well. It's really a pity how it can take your self-esteem away from you.
One celeb that I used to sort of like was Lindsay Lohan, as she looked natural and she actually seemed happy with being normal. Then she lost all the weight...
Can only hope the tendencies will change and it will be more acceptable to look normal.

I wear size 0 .. I'm 18 and i weigh 48 Kg .. But i still look normal. I guess it depends from one person to another .. But i do not like how people lose weight to be a size 0 or to look "thin" i just gained 1 Kg which made me reach 48 and I'm really happy about it!!:D

hey rockfreak,
well, congratulations on that one! i know exactly how difficult it is to gain weight if you want to. It's very nice to hear this from others, as i don't know any other people who're also 'too skinny'! You just weight as much as me, wanna bet who's gained a kilo sooner ;)? just kiddin. but still i'm relieved too hear other people saying this, that they're happy to gain weight! you're very lucky you're not looking 'abnormal' cuz it's really frustrating if someone gives you a look like, what the **** is wrong with you? or even worse, asking this about you to a friend. i hate these people who're judging so quickly on what they see. so, this was my frustration for today. :)
hey, just noticed, you're also just as old as i am.

Its sad to see models on the runway who are stick thin- they look ill and they don't look happy...and this is what we are supposed to look up to? and want to be like? Its sick. Beauty isn't just how you look- it is your whole being. They can be as skinny as they like, and have all the 'beauty' treatments in the world, but they will always just be superficial, never beautiful.
We live in a world where women are made to think they must look 'perfect'. Magazines are full of..' how to get the perfect...'
Perfect does not exist. Each persons idea of perfect is different. No-one will ever be perfect...because they just cant be.
not size 0 but i mean they are models because they areso thin you need talent for art like models need to be thin for modeling :) but there are many exagerations like thin girls sayng i`m fat and so on those need to go to a shrink.i`m good for diets because i dont like swwets except caramel i dont like chocolate i like only chiken meat i dont like fat foods...but i can`t resist fast foods :D but we don`t have fast food restaurants in my town so saved...but even so i never went on a diet and im not thin :)

I think it's horrible, my 15-year-old sister is a size 00 and she'll walk in front of a mirror and say, "Ugh, I look so fat." And then, of course, I just want to smack her. I'm a size 8 and I'm far more comfortable with myself than she is. (We're built very differently, we don't even look like sisters. :p) I think it's a very sad thing when you have young girls counting every freakin' calorie and obsessing over their weight. Yeah, it's very important to be healthy, but healthy does not always = super thin. People should focus more on their character vs. looks.
