Oooooh I love the bunny and the fairy the best. I actually like the fact she's a bit cross-eyed, it somehow adds charm to her look. And I'm very curious how the drawing of a smoking girl gonna turn out, there's something special about it. ;)

I NEED ADVICE:
i just noticed that the folding on the t-shirt in 'everything that hurts' look really massive- like they are very outstanding... but actually they are supposed to be shallower...
can i create that effect by simply darkening all the white parts???
Julieta
06-03-2006, 11:34 PM
and as you guys know, I always rush my drawings- I just can't be patient-

Hey your Draws are really great joane! I like the idea and the Titles from your Draws a lot. You need not more patien you have to spendt a bit more time on your Draws. (dont understand that wrong)
Shirt Tip:
Maybe you smear it a bit to made it looking realer. But not to much an try to go from dark to light, so you dont must darken all the withe areas. Its only an Tip!

La dignité et le respect
__________________________________________________ _________________________
....um...yeah yeah i agree:confused:are you feeling allright?(jk) :D what is it?

Your painting looks very special and mystical, very cool! I really like it, both the colors and the composition. I also like the first sketch and the drawing of you ;) what does the poem say? Like, if you could make a short summary of it or something :P anyway, nice new collection ;)

@ Hadieh: Thanks a lot dear I really appreciate ur comments =)
@Snowflake: thank you :D Here's a translation of the poem into english, but of course it does not rhyme...
such a luck to have you always by my side
you with your soul of such a beauty
time passes wih good and bad phases
although there are conflicts
we try and we fight
tears fall
we meet in the crowd
we see each other well
but don't say a word
some days later
as if of coincidence
our souls retrieve each other again
and they proove us
that we are the best friends
who can be found in life
and in the end
my life's
in your hand

I like the drawing you did for your friend. The pose is really nice, and I like how you added a rose, it seems to suit the picture really well!
Great work on the painting too. I like the combination of warm and cool colours, and the shadows on the left side of the rock. :D

Hello everyone :)
Maybe you remember me- I haven't posted for ages, since i was so busy with school and everything, but I finally found the time and motivation to finish and scan my few recent art pieces :)
comments and critic are for sure always welcome :)
it's good to be back :D
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/1291/paperpiecewt9.th.jpg (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=paperpiecewt9.jpg)
this is jsut a little simple something, a "paperpiece" drawn while listening to My Chemical Romance - early sunsets over monroeville, also icludes it's lyrics- wanted to s.th. a bit rougher
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/6826/imageofthepastfa1.th.jpg (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imageofthepastfa1.jpg)
I called this one "image of the past" since it is basicly what I've been mainly drawing the last time I posted- all these dark corsage girls, which I still really love to draw, although they do, luckily, not reflect my personal mood as a whole anymore...
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/6850/severdrawnrd7.th.jpg (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=severdrawnrd7.jpg)
this is a very quick one which I drew from the My Chemical Romance clip ( yeah... kinda love that band^^) for I don't love you, just drawn from a very crappy screenshot, i love the eyes though, they are so full of expression. kinda screwed up the mouth etc. though...
it's called the saddest eyes she's ever drawn
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/5995/sdifferentta9.th.jpg (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sdifferentta9.jpg)
another quick, rough one called "she's different". kinda expresses my aversion towards uniformity and everyone being the same, which i see a lot at my collgege where, especially girls, all try to dress and act the same etc.
therefore this is a different ballerina.
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/5854/thedarkagerf1.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=thedarkagerf1.jpg)
this one I drew from a picture which I found while googling "dark" and i adored it- i hope i'm not stealing anyone's copyright here.
i tried to make my very own version out of it though and did intentionally not smudge anything. as mentioned before I kinda am into the rough drawing style at present :)
i adapted the photos title: "the dark age"
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/886/tempesttossedcv5.th.jpg (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tempesttossedcv5.jpg)
i really loved this one... until I drew the mouth which I hate. I'm pretty annoyed therefore, still, it's another rough drawing experience and another piece of my dark girl collection^^ :)

You got this style... it's so different and sketchy but I really like it :)
The concept behind some drawings, for example the 'she's different' one's greatly thought-up. There's such a difference between copying a photo and actually draw for a meaning - therefore, what you do, is pure art :)

hey everyone :D
I'm finally back with a bit of new dark art =)
this one is called:
no more fairytales
and I'm quite happy with the result
i really rushed the shading but the eyes and the mouth were the important parts to me so i don't really care...
only the cheek and forehead are not as bright in real, looks a bit weird in this scan
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1878/nomorefairytaleskq9.th.jpg (http://img207.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nomorefairytaleskq9.jpg)

I took a pic from underworld.
it looks really crappy i guess, but felt good to draw in that situation.

Yeey impressionism, that's something too few people choose as a style. your landscapes are wonderful with great colours, but that's what impressionism is all about, right? the Ayers rock is my favourtite, great colour-contrasts.

hey guys :)
sadly not many comments last time and already I'm back with new stuff:
it's a drawing which i did for my best friend Marco who's in a band called the Cash Kowboys ( intentionally with K here^^) .
It was such a gorgeous ref. pic and I kinda feel like having messed up since the mouth doesn't look alright and it was also my first time drawing a beard, and the eyes stood out a lot more in the ref. pic, too.
still can't get rid of the lines on the skin when drawing with charcoal neither, but I think that might be because I use such a crappy copy paper which is really rough^^ any recommendations for better paper?
anyways i hope you might like it in one way or the other^^

Marit

that's an impressing portrait..I know what you mean with these lines on his face. That could be becuase of the paper you use, like u said. I used Bristol smooth lately, not any more as i use a different technique now which is sketchier. As your style doesn't seem so skecthy to me, i recommend you smooth paper like Bristol's. I don't know what you mean about the eyes though, they're looking very real to me. Also the hat looks really nice.
Maybe the mouth is a bit too low? if you think of the drawing without the moustache, it looks like the upperlip should be higher.
Overall a very nice portrait ^^
Joane

The eye is beautiful, well drawn :)
Aaalba.. it's a nice drawing and she is definitely recognizable. The way the light reflects on the hat looks very good and realistic.
I think her jaw might be a little too big/long for her and the left arm a little too thin. Other than that it's a very pretty drawing of the beauty.
DivineRAiN
01-15-2008, 06:35 PM
you've got a cute friend.. and he wears eyeliner?.. he's cute and kewl. The drawing looks good, I think you did a great job on the hair & facial hair. His left eye looks good, the other eye doesn't really match the same quality but it isn't distracting. I don't see anything wrong with the lips, I think they're fine the way they are.
The lines... I've been having the same problem. Don't remember who, but someone from here has a video on youtube on drawing hair. That got me checking out the drawing stuff on youtube, and found plenty of videos of people using charcoals.
I think this one is helpful.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5puWPlKCAm8&feature=related
he shows how he goes about using charcoal.. and talks about it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6DrrxpeC2Q
I don't know what kind of paper EclecticAsylumArt uses.. but I don't think it's necessarily the paper. Rough paper is recommended for charcoal, and that's what the artist uses in the first video.

Wow, you have so many I barely new where to start looking!:D I like the ones where you've drawn and shaded mainly just the features and left a lot of the paper white for contrast. That reminds me of Japanese style art, particularly the artists for FF games with very dreamy looking characters. I have two that I like the most though. The first is "the truth is dark and dirty", really love the deep blacks in it, and her eyes look so wet!
My favourite though is one that imageshack won't actually show me when I click to get a bigger picture:(. It's in your second post at the top, a girl running on a black background in a long flowing dress. Your style seems really beautiful but tragic, and that one captures it all.

hello everyone :D
this one of Zindy I did for the Jessica Alba give away competition and then edited it with photoshop to combine with a background and a poem.
It took me quite a long time but I'm still not satisfyed at all- just couldn't get the mouth right, but after like a hundred tries I decided to leave it this way in order not to destroy the paper -.-
i wanted to do something positive, bright and hopeful, this is why it is so unlike my normal dark style.
tell me what you think :)

It looks very nice :D the mouth is also good, can't see why it's not right ;) The only thing I see is that it looks like her wings are coming out of her neck instead of her back... but the wings are beautiful ;)

Well about the mouth i think you shoud've just draw it a little bit more to the left, but still I reconized Zindy right away:).And to be honest that mouth dosen't bother me at all:D.It's good drawing you should win the Jessica Alba give away competition. I've seen those other enetys too but i yours is the best:D.

@ J.J
i know what you mean, i advice people to do that a lot, too, but i usually do draw with lots of contrast ( e.g. my last charcoal art) and this time I intentionally wanted to do something a littel brighter with not as much contrast b/c these drawings usually turn out really dark for me^^
@sillulilu thank you very much, can't wait for Zindy to decide =)

I like it, your boyfriend is insta-recognizeable. All of your features are accurately placed and drawn out but because you altered the shading you're cheekbones don't look as defined as I think they are in real life. It's pretty ambitious to be trying to attempt what you have and I you're prolly going to need a good background in anatomy to come close enough.
Everything looks very good though, the eyes, esp Toby's look very round and bright, lips look soft. The skin tones are smooth, something I find tough using a high contrast style like this. Well done on getting two people in the same portrait as well, particularly from different photographs. I'd have been all over the place with misproportions and binned it after several hours most likely .

Each portrait by itself is pretty well drawn, but it doesn't look like two people in the same picture. The lighting in the original photos is so entirely different that it would be very difficult to change it to be the same.
In the original photo of you, the lighting is very direct (harsh) from almost directly to the right, but perhaps slightly behind you (the subject). I would guess this photo was taken on a clear day early in the morning or (more likely) late in the afternoon while the sun was near the horizon. In the original photo of your boyfriend, the lighting is diffused (soft) from almost directly overhead, but slightly in front of him. I would guess this photo was taken on a cloudy (overcast) day near the middle of the day.
You managed to soften the lighting for your portrait a lot, but you didn't really change its direction, which, again, would be very difficult to do.

thanks for your comments and yes cfwhitman, this is exactely what my problem was and the reason why I tried to change the shadows which did not entirely work out ^^
Julieta
02-21-2008, 12:35 AM
Joane I love that painting in your sig, its amazing!
You should try to decide where the light is coming from. That should help you figure out where to place the shadows.
I'm thinking about something like light coming across from the right side (from the viewer's perspective). Therefore there would be stronger contrast on your bf's face as the light is coming at a more oblique angle, and there would be a more softer contrast on your face.
This seems to be more suitable, to emphasize his masculinity and your feminity.
Joane
02-21-2008, 02:21 PM
thank you julieta
and thanks to you too, tim. I don't really dare to change it now cuz i'd probably ruin it, but next time I place two people in one portrait I will definetely do that ;)

hey everyone :D
thanks again for all your sweet comments to my last drawing.
here's my newest artwork which is called:
Where is my childhood?
I found this interesting picture of a little girl on the internet and got instantly captured by her look. She just looks very thoughtful and so much more mature then she'd be supposed to be and still very sweet and innocent.
About the title:
I just feel really sad when I see how children and youngsters tend to grow up more and more quickly with every year- when I was in year 5 ( about 10 years old) i played with dolls and now these girls already wear mini skirts and go partying...
Just makes me sad in a way.
And i feel kinda old cuz of my school time ending too ( ^^) and think that every child should enjoy it's freedom as long as it can.
here you go, hope you have some tips for me ;)
still couldn't do without imageshack. i'll have to work on that^^

your last two drawings look great. I think you did an awesome job on the facial features, shading, and combining you and your boyfriend from two different pictures. The concept of this latest drawing can get me going... I pretty much feel the same way, except I think for the most part, children today have way toooooo much freedom. Partying and wearing miniskirts at 10 years old? Oh heck naw.. my daughter is 16 yrs old and I still won't allow her to do either.

Growing old is what you get used to after several years ;). For your drawing; it looks good and certainly contains the expression it needs. You could have set the 2nd surrounding boundry set not so much which divides the portrait from the background. Make the background near the portrait in a strong gradient, but don't boundry it. It gains you more depth because of the optical deceivement. Still, a very good drawing ;)

it's called "Where is my mind?" after the song by the Pixies, which I also added on the drawing and I drew it during my final exams actually thinking: where is my mind? ... ^^

The first one is very good. I dunno the name but I recognize the face (I don't keep up with Alba/Simpson and so on... lol). Kind of high contrast style, wish I could do that effectively.
I don't think you should concern yourself too much over blending. The more and more I blend drawings the more I wish I hadn't when I see how they turn out. I find that close up, the blending can look a little bit better, but from far away it doesn't look nearly as good as an unblended drawing. That might be just my preference, or maybe I don't do it right either, but I really prefer a style that shows a hint of how it was made and the odd visible pencil mark. Adds warmth to a drawing, a lot of the truly photorealistic styles, while impressive technically, leave me cold.
I think Lion on devart (and here) has a great style because it's about 85/90% polished but he retains texture and depth by not flattening the whole thing.
