Good evening :)
Here is my last draw

its not too bad nightlight, the shading is pretty good and most of the other things are right.
my advice i would give you is while you "draw what you see" also analyze what you see if it makes it easier. to elaborate, sometimes you have to notice the different angles of the face and eyes.
heres my example with the original
http://img201.echo.cx/img201/2185/original8ig.th.jpg
then compare your angles with the angles i did with the red lines. after you get your desired angles then you can focus on proportion or where the eyes, nose, or mouth go.
but you shouldnt do it if you dont feel comfortable doing this way. this is just how i did it and i just worked at it like this. i still do it sometimes just to make sure the angles are right. but now alot of times i rely on instinct
i think youll do very well later on anyways. you already have a pretty good sense of drawing the face and doing the shading. so just keep practicing and you could probably do well without my advice anyways
Jwebbie81
06-18-2005, 01:24 AM
yeah thats good advice. it's also easy to lay down you pencil on the orignal to get the angle and sight that over to your drawing.....thats soemthing my art teacher in Highschool always emphasized.

Thanks wanderingaimlessly. :) It's a really good advice.. the next time I'll try to do it :P

I think the reference pic of adriana lima was also a quite hard example because it is no photo where you see her 'front-side'
but what i really like about it is how you drew the shine on her lips and nose- that looks so good!
you definetely have great techniques ;)

Well, I think it's special and a cute drawing, he has a sadness in the eyes.
The eyes of the girl looks good and deep. The drawing could use a bit more dark shading in some areas, especially under the chin to give it more depth and maybe a bit more shading around the eyes

It’s definitely him… the eyes are nice. The skin however looks very spotty and too structured. If you removed the spots and made the shading smoother I think it will be a nice drawing.
He’s a bit gross though, agree with Elena and Sada, but that doesn’t make your drawing bad :)

Hmm yeah it doesn't look like her that much but it's still a nice drawing :) Her eyes seem to be a little cross eyed. The right iris and pupil should be placed more in the middle of the eye as on the left eye.
I agree that the shirt could use some more shading and dark areas to make it more realistic. In general some darker tones would do your drawing good.

Well, that's my third portrait made with pastel pencils (Derwent).
The subject is Jean Alesi, a racing driver - now in dtm - that was also in formula one. The photo reference was from 94 (Ferrari). It's a very personal portrait because Alesi was my idol when I was a child (.. uhm.. and also a teenager :p )

Grande disegno, I think you did a good job on the ear and hair, I don't know how J. Alesi looks like, so I did a google search, and I guess this is the ref pic. http://www.d2.dion.ne.jp/~ciaohide/img/al-24.jpg
I think you should trie to make the mouth longer, and the eye's seem to be a bit off, but those thing said I think you did a il lavoro tremendo sul suo disegno.
(hope I spelled the Italian text right and did not make a clouwn out of my self :p)

http://nightlight.altervista.org/_altervista_ht/NightlightMichelleWilliams.jpg
She's Michelle Williams (Dawson Creek... do you remember her? :p ): Well, I made some little changes... like eyes and hair color.. but she's still her. I used hb, 4h, 6h and 3b pencils. This time I tried a new shading technique... it's called circularism. It's a good alternative to hatching. :)
Unfortunately my sweet and beloved scanner had hit the mark..
a lot of light grey is gone.

It's a shame that we can enlarge the drawing to see it more detailed..
