I like the new, revived DOCTOR WHO series. Only the first 2 episodes have aired in Canada.

Canada has viewed a number of British series. What happened was that the "educational" networks (usually each province had such a TV network) would broadcast learning programs during the school day, but had to show something in the evenings. So it would be drama, classical, theater, and British shows. I remember watching DOCTOR WHO starting with John Pertwee as the Doctor in the 70's. Only back then they had 4 or 6 half-hour episodes per story. Now they tell a whole story in a one-hour episode.

The second episode of the new series, where the Doctor and Rose travel to the time of Earth's destruction by the Sun, had some poignant moments as Rose realizes that her whole planet is about to blow up. But some things were stolen from other shows. Those crawly robot things looked straight out of MINORITY REPORT, and the whole "platform" resembled the Restaurant at the End of the Universe from THE HITCH-HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY: a place protected from the ravages of an apocalyptic destruction so jaded rich spectators can watch the show. But this is to be expected: Douglas Adams used to write for some DOCTOR WHO episodes, and he included the plot-point of a DOCTOR WHO episode as a climax for his book, DIRK GENTLY'S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY.
