I'm an older guy and I'm uncool.
But still, my goodness! Come ON, people. You kids sound like you are in the pockets of the record-companies. Any new fad they promote ("hype") heavily you will swallow! I haven't heard of some of these guys.
Now some singers you mention like Eminem, Axl Rose, Eric Clapton, Prince, Sting, Stevie Wonder, this is understandable. They have worked hard and long, and had talent! But who are these other fluffy new guys? Oh, well, I don't want to start a war...
Draw from music history. I thought I'd hear somebody mention Elvis, or John Lennon or something BIG. Maybe even to be funny, Frank Sinatra or Perry Como. Who really has VOICE?
It may be possible that one or two of these new guys you mention has such a nice voice that they should line up 500 women to have his babies so his gift is not lost from the Earth. John Lennon and David Crosby did something like that, in fact. :-) But who really has the nice voice, really, and is not record-company hype to sell "product" you forget in 2 years?
I'll admit it's hard to organize the five BEST male singers in your mind. Whose voice do I turn to for charisma, human reassurance and comfort? I dunno. I had to review a list of my CD collection when it was at its largest (but then I got ROBBED and have only 1/10th what I had). Lemme try this list in no particular order, popular or obscure:
Jim Morrison of THE DOORS
David Bowie (come on, guys, David FREAKING Bowie!)
Morrissey of THE SMITHS (right now in the news it is appropriate to play "Girlfriend in a Coma")
Peter Gabriel
Michael Stipe of R.E.M.
Geddy Lee of RUSH (hard rock sound)
Paul Simon (feel good with his GRACELAND album)
Bono of U2
Midge Ure of ULTRAVOX (I mentioned that if you feel down, listen to "One Small Day". Omigod, what a coincidence, the song came up in my Internet Radio Station as I retyped this. Yahoo LaunchCast rocks.)
Larry Gowan, who was just called GOWAN, when he sang "A Criminal Mind". That was a soulful song about an unrepentant guy in prison.
when i think about my favorite singers it's really about their voices not the music. a great singer can sing almost anything with their own style but still creating something new.
i do like the music for example jim morrison, morrissey and david bowie have written but as singers i don't think they are that great...
but everybody is intitled to have their own opinion so.. :)

Well first name that pops in my had is of course Chris Martin, I've been a fan of Coldplay for years now.
For the rest, of course, Elton John, he's great and also Bob Dylan
I don't know if you guys know Leonard Cohen? My mum has all his cd's and puts them on really loud. He has quite an intruiging (Draconian!! help with spelling!) voice.
Ow and Chris Isaac (from that song ' Wicked Game' and 'Blue Hotel' you know it when you here it I'm sure)
Then Don Mcclean and Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkle. Hm that's it :)

Yes, let me help. "Intriguing". From the word "intrigue" -- which is French like moi. Actually I'm a French-Canadian but we often say just "French," to be separate from that OTHER kind of Canadian. You know the kind I mean. :-) You don't pronounce the U in "intrigue". (IN-tree-g)
Leonard Cohen is that other kind of Canadian. Except he's probably Jewish too. It's soooo confusing to know what a Canadian is supposed to be, because we're from everywhere. Deep and slightly gravelly voice like in "Everybody Knows" (a song featured in the movie PUMP UP THE VOLUME (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100436/soundtrack) with Christian Slater).
Chris Isaak  had a great song with "Wicked Game". Even I sang that at karaoke bars, but not too well because I'm not sexy enough. But I could imitate the guitar fingering very well because the song is slow enough! I can imitate any song -- as long as I play everything in the Glorious Key of C.
Here are pics of me at karaoke:

I've lost a little weight since the ones in the white T-shirt, so I'm not so bad now.
wow, your not how i pictured you...in a good way that is! I sort of pictured you with short black hair, a suit, and spectacles...i don't know why!! But great pics...i didn't know your name was pierre! or should i say: Heavy P
hehe :P looks like some fun times
