Strands of hair?

Lately I've been getting better at drawing hair, but I was just wondering...what kind of pencil do you use for the strands? I've got the shading part down, but when I try to draw the lines my pencil is always too thick and it comes out looking very unrealistic. Do mechanicals work?

Just make sure that your pencil is sharp. And yes, mechanicals work. I personally use one, with 2B lead.

Another thing I once read somewhere, and I think is very true when drawing realistic hair: don't draw the hairs, draw the spaces in between the hairs.

It was drilled into me at art school that you must keep the pencil sharp.
