I thought I would show you my latest WIP of forum member Kaia /sillulillu. Her reference can be found here: http://zindy-zone.dk/forum/showthread.php?p=265854#post265854
I really love that photo of her and had to do a little drawing of it. I am a little scared to do the hair - red is never easy. Still discussing with myself wheter to use pastels or colour pencils for the hair. Anyway, I guess I will have to decide soon :)

Another step of the drawing, only because I know you visit often and might like to see the progress :) I've used quite some time getting the tone of your hair, it's not easy young lady!;)

Oh WOW:D. This is amazing:D . And I do love to see the progress:). You actually got my hair color really well:D. I can't wait to see it when it's done:D.
By the way I showed it to my mom and she wanted to thank you:). I've always whined to her that she should try to draw me and now I'm off her back lol.

Very nice idea to post some WIP's in the forums; it gets a little more active this way. It certainly have the essence of her "typicalls", but I never doubt that was one of your strongest points. Nice to see some ID of fellow artist too :)

Thanks for the nice comments :)

One last picture of it in progress before I show the finished drawing. I would have been done with it already had it not been for the addictive Zuma ;)
I basically just need the final touch to the flowers, the shirt and the background.

Kaia, you have good features to draw, especially your lips, wasn't hard to make you look pretty :)
Thanks much Micaiah and Aaron, I very much enjoyed working on this one.

Here's the final drawing, Fire Soul.
The title of the drawing in Danish is "Ild Sjael", which would be translated to "fire soul". The expression doesn't exactly exist in English I learned but in Danish it means something in the lines of a passionate strong willed person. Kind of how I think Kaia is - mixed with that fire red hair of hers, it was just the most fitting title to me.
Hope you like it, especially you Kaia :)
It was interesting to do this because of the colours - how I long even more for the beautiful Autumn colours now.

Cold Shiva
08-01-2009, 10:23 PM
I love this Zindy. Not only you've captivated her likeness, but you've nailed down that power of yours: the expression. Although the expression is meant as a fired soul, I get a whole different feeling from her. Kaia isn't a temperamental person, but more gentle with alot of feeling. Step on it, and you'll get alot backfire. What I would say that you captivate more likely she has that sensitivity and compassion.

You really made her calm and very friendly and not so "polished" and very natural. This is what I enjoy. With all do respect Kaia:

Don't feel too down, if I see this, know that people can look alooooot worse :D.

Thanks for your sweet comment, it made me smile :)
Lisa - since I have terrible migraine attacks most of this summer.

So, I am drawing another forum member - beautiful Chantal/Chart :)
I've decided to post a little preview, to have your opinions on it so far. I wanted to do a dreamscape with warm purple colours. I must admit I am happy how it's going so far. My plan is to do the water in grey tones, like my La fille des eaux sombres drawing, only better hopefully.

Thanks much you all ♥

Kaia - it's on and off, sadly. The heat is hard on my head, past days haven't been that good but now that the rain is coming it takes off the headaches usually. I just really look forward for the autumn and winter as it will give me some relief. It's not much fun with a constant pressure on your head :/ I used to really like summer though...

Bassim - I did the drawing in a couple of days. I am a little surprised how fast I did it too, must be because I really was into the drawing :)

Genie - aw, don't worry. I don't remember having seen you? I will open a thread soon where you are welcome to post your photos. I admit I adore beauty but I also really like uniqueness :)

Chantal - I am very happy you like it. I hope you like the end result too :) Loved drawing you.

Ester - Thanks much that is such a compliment.

Here's the final drawing. I feel happy how it turned out and am ready to do another dreamscape perhaps in some different colours. If anyone would like to be the model feel free to post your photos in the Inspire me thread posted in the Photos forum:

Thanks for being the beautiful model Chantal :)

I hope you'll be better soon. As, at least in Estonia, the weather really turn colder every day and there is less sun. But maybe you should see a doctor? It's not normal to have migrains like that.
But the drawing is beautiful. The emotion and the landscape is awesome! And you already knew that:D
I might send you some of my photos:D i know you drew me already but maybe you want to use some of them.

And thanks so much for your comments.

Kaia, it is here too, finally. Today it's the first day it has felt like real autumn. As I write this the wind is strong on the window :)

I have been very much into cats lately. Thought I would post them here as well + my latest WIP of my mom's new kitten. Someone left it too :( He's not very old and very very playful. He was about to attack the camera ribbon in this shot I am using :)
Only little problem is having the right direction in the kittens eyes. I hope I will manage to make him look more down. I plan to add a ladybug on one of the straws :)

Joane - Glad you like the new icons :love1:

I have been working on this one during the weekend, and I am a bit unsure about the grass. It's far from done but I don't know what is the best way to go about it. I would prefer it having some sort of realism as the kitten has.
Any advice would be great. I am planning to let it fade out in the edges as above the kittens head.

Thanks much for your sweet comments once again, there will be more Robin and more cats ;)
Hannah, it's so nice to hear from you again and I really look forward seeing your new paintings - I always loved those.

I am not drawing that many cats these days, been working on commissions and my Halloween drawing, which seems to take forever already. Besides I don't want to become a crazy cat girl not able to do anything else :D

I did complete this one not too long ago, it's a drawing I worked on for many weeks already, striped cats seem to be the most time consuming to do. I enjoied it just as much though :) I used the little kitten of my friend Lisa to create this. Loved how he looked so searching, I obviously had to put a butterfly in it. It reminds me of my mom's kittens last summer when they would jump around in the garden smelling everything and catching butterflies. They are such adorable creatures.

Zindy
10-28-2009, 12:01 AM
Thanks much all :aww: I truly loved drawing it.

Lisa, do you mean because they are showing - the claws?

I have been working on this new one the past days and I am kind of divided between whether I should keep it like this or make a background. I was thinking to do the background ice blue like her shirt with the ice crystals like the one she is holding. Just a few of them I think. However, I kind of like how it is now too, with the white space around her, which was what I was originally going for. Maybe it would add something good to it if I add the background and perhaps make it more special? Please give me your opinion, as I simply can't make up my mind and it's a bit frustrating.

Yes, once again, a beautiful piece of work. :)
I agree with Kaia. I think the whit eback ground looks nice. Although, I see where you find it hard to decided upon, because a little something in the background could be nice too... lol..
Not sure if that helped at all, :P

Lately I have been doing Lost characters and finishing a lot of older charcoal drawings I've had in progress for long. I am really bad at starting new ones.

I love the drawing you did of Kaia - it's such beautiful lightning.

Ben looks freaky.. which suits him :) And Hurley looks fragile.. which suits him as well :p He might be such a big guy, his character seems so fragile to me ;)

The secret calender drawing is great too.. I love how you did the dress ;)

Excellent work. I really don't know how you get that kind of detail with charcoal. Do you do highlights with white charcoal, or just erase?

Have Fun,

Joane

the one of kaia is soooooo stunning.
how did you get the lips to look sooo beautiful and shiny?

If you ever have time I'd love to see a tutorial for lips in difficult perspectives plus putting shiny highlights on them... with charcoal.

you're a genious zindy ;)

11-20-2009, 08:55 PM
gorgeous new drawings Zindy, my favourite is Ben, love the fragile look you captured and the shading is perfect :)!!

Zindy
11-29-2009, 09:33 PM
Jeff, I let the white areas be light when shading, sometimes I use my kneeded eraser to make them lighter if I accidently shade into the highlighted areas, which does happen.
Thank you Joane :aww: I mentioned it a bit above, leave the white light areas and make them whiter with you eraser when needed. Can be hard with charcoal sometimes but if you use the kneeded eraser enough you can make it almost all white.
James, I find it interesting you say fragile; I never looked at Ben in this drawing as having a fragile look before.. but looking at it again I can see it can be a bit fragile and not just psycotic :)
Chantal, I really love his role in Lost, as he is this big guy but so gentle and fragile, I think it's one of the things I love about him the most. + When Jorge saw the drawing he was very kind, gives him a big + for caring in real life too :) I think I will have to draw him again, I really loved this.

I have been working on this darker drawing the past week and I have been stuck the past days whether or not to let the moon be small near the corner or to make it big behind her. I know making it big will be a big challenge with the details and shine of the moon, which is why I am leaning towards that option. I tried making big moon in photoshop and I think it looks alright? What do you like better?

the big moon makes it look more like a "mystery" dawing. If you wanna go for something natural, I'd choose the small moon.
And I think you'd do really good with the big moon, can't be harder than shading a face ;)

Thanks for the advice already, I will go with the big moon, this made me sure :)
Val, it's my best friend; Anja-Amanda.

In the meantime I finished up this drawing from the summer. I am very happy how it turned out and the feel of it.
When I look at it I get this peaceful feel and this story forms in my head. I imagine they have been out for dinner with their friends, after a long week. Finally it's weekend and the two of them can just relax (loosing up the tie), getting ready to cuddle and sleep in each others arms. I just love that.
Models; Anja-Amanda and Nicklas, from a photo shoot early summer 09. Soft charcoal.

lovely work again for the wip of the dark moon drawing, awesome pair of eyes! :D
And the latest drawing of the couple in it, it just shows your versitality nomatter what kind of drawing you do ( realistic, sub-realistic, simple etc ), it still has that Zindy factor in it. You're a master of emotions and feel, thanks for sharing! :D

but why do you always draw amanda xD?

Bassim;
It’s not as much about drawing her as it is having a great model in hand. I wouldn’t mind using other people to pose for me but unfortunately most that I wish to use live in different countries. Andy lives 20 minutes away and is amazing in posing the way I need.

I am working on the bigger moon, it's very simplistic right now but hoping it will turn out good in the end.

Your latest looks very beautiful. For the moon-drawing: I thing you could use a bigger moon, a little smaller then your biggest, and place it at the position the small moon is. It should barely reach her face. But I think it's a matter of taste ;)

Your latest work is SO beautiful! I really want to make something like that from me and my boyfriend, but we simply lack usefull pictures :p Very great work, I really 'feel' the emotion ;)

Zindy
12-09-2009, 06:29 PM
Chantal, I so know what you mean. It’s very hard to take these kinds of photos of yourself and your love, because you have to consider angle and light and everything. It’s much easier when you are behind the camera and can make the models pose for you and correct them to the position and emotion.

Valerie, thank you much for the sweet words. I will indeed use myself again. My lost was a bit in style with the series you posted from; I see the light. A the moment I just feel better using other people as models instead, my mirror aren't too good to me.

Mike, it could have been an option, had I not already drawn up the moon. I like how it's looking with the bigger moon so I am glad I went with that. Even though it might be unrealistic :)

The next step in the drawing:
I've decided to go with a purple/brown background, similar to her makeup colour. Since it's not that realistic anyway I might as well stay in that spirit :)

I found it pretty hard to tell what would be best and where to make it go, with you posting the previous WIP. But now you did the hair, I can see you totally made the right choice. It has a very nice and kind of mysterious tone to it now :)

Vall

Zindy, it really is turning out great, the choice of colors make the drawing interesting and beautiful because it fits beautifully. It really makes it more of a fall/winter piece, was that what you were going for when you started it? Or did you just go with the flow and see what would happen ;) anyways it's a lovely drawing :aww:

Joane
12-10-2009, 03:31 PM
it looks great with the big moon and has exactely the kind of mystery touch I expected :)

Zindy
12-10-2009, 08:47 PM
Chantal, I think that is why I had doubts myself, now that it's all done I am positive it should be big :)

Thank you Val, I knew I wanted these colours of the girl when I started it, except I planned for her to have all black hair but found it better with the slightly lighther brown grey. I did however planned for a creamy brown colour for the background but ended up using her make up colour for the sky instead and very happy I did.

The finished drawing, which I feel very happy with, especially her mysteries expression:

It's very beautiful Zindy, I think it suits the mood perfectly well. In a balance it is great and you should leave it his way. If you're after a "realistic moon", I would suggest to edge off those moonlakes and moonseas (Mare) at the darksides and to pop out the moon and make the craters much more visible.

But it's done, so my advice comes in too late. Again, I think you did a marvellous job on this!

LisaFeehily

Zindy
12-16-2009, 02:51 PM
Thanks very much for the comment on Dark Moon.
Mike; you are very right, however, I deliberately did it less edged as it didn't look right. At an early stage I drew one of the areas much harder and less blurry and to me it interfered with the girl, so I decided a more blurry version of the moon.

This drawing is very dear to me, as I used the sweet Joane http://zindy-zone.dk/forum/image.php?u=623&dateline=1195662217 (http://zindy-zone.dk/forum/member.php?u=623). http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii69/Joane89/th_johannamod.jpg (http://s261.photobucket.com/albums/ii69/Joane89/?action=view&current=johannamod.jpg)
I really liked the photo and knew I wanted to do something with it. The drawing kind of changed through the process from the idea I had. I just knew I wanted a moon and black hair to begin with. I made her more innocent looking than dark, which is my favourite part of the drawing, her expression. It was interesting to use this red, the scanner never pick up the tones well, it's lacking it's life and deep colour but I still think it looks ok but as you know the scanners never show a 100 % the original.

The drawing is special to me, has a lot to do with the model used too I think :aww: I am not sure exactly how long it took but it was a long time and I was very caught up in it from the very beginning till the end.
Made with soft pastels.

You newest work is beautiful, too! The rose is.. whow, it's what actually makes this work so beautiful, if you ask me, especially the extra details of the flying petals. And again, that moon.. I love that moon :)

Zindy
12-16-2009, 03:02 PM
Chantal, thank you so much, I am glad you mention it, because when I added the rose I felt the drawing got something that seperated it from being a "normal" portrait and a bit more special.

I've been working on another cutie from the forum - Ramona.
This one has been in progress for some time, worked a lot to corrrect eye error as well as getting the right expression. Still not a 100 % satisfied. It somehow didn't end up looking much like Denise even though I really aimed to when I started it. She has the most purdy lips :)
Anyway, I think I have used about 10 hours on it so far, it's going to take quite a while.
Feel free to point out any errors you see or any thoughts you might have, I still am not sure if her eyes are a 100 % even, I have stared so long that I got this "blind eye".
http://zindy-zone.dk/images/drawings/work_on_progress/unleashed_butterfly.jpg

Adia; I work in lines with colour pencils, not circulism. Not sure if that would work for me. Same goes for when I work with graphite pencils.

Mike, you think? Maybe, I am usually switching a lot when I draw, I rarely complete one area at once, as I get tired quickly when doing the same thing. I do try to finish one thing when working with colours, to avoid not hitting the right colour tone the next time, it's easier with black and white to switch around a lot.

Kaia, I tried to keep Ramona inthere, she has a very sweet face, beautiful lips, after I added the freckles it somehow got a sweeter look though Denise do not have them actually. Funny how that works :)

Esther, thank you and I know what you mean, it seems very pointy. I made it a little less pointy than the actual photo but I guess it still looks that way. It's one of these things that you need to work on when "translating" a photo into a drawing :)

JJ, thank you, means a lot as this is one of my goals with my drawings.

When you show your true self you are fragile but it's not untill you do you find yourself.

I find it interesting how a lot of people change depending on who they are with, I see it so often, even with the people I am close to.
Other people keep a distance, a mask. It's not easy being yourself but when you do and people like you for who you are you feel at peace.

I have had this drawing in process for a very long time actually, many hours went into it. I wanted it to be the first completed drawing of the year as it's a topic I find interesting.

An extremely beautifulpiece, just by looking at the subtle technicals of the drawing, it's amazing. i love the meaning you have input into this work of art. Jeff, I tried out some darker colours in photoshop before actually coloring the corset on the Oops girl and it looked much better with a lighter colour which is why I ended up going with the very light blue.

Oh waw, thank you Mike  ;)

I did finish Dark Lily, as you might have seen on my website some time back. Here it is:

My lastest Pin-Up girl, for the Valentine's Day, I am working on a more traditional romantic realistic drawing too though:
Sweet Valentine
http://zindy-zone.dk/images/drawings/colour_pencil/Sweet_Valentine.jpg

Some train doodles I did on my way to my parents. Takes 2.30 hours by train and gets pretty boring without music or pencils.
This is the type of work I did when I first started drawing again. I really haven't done anything like it in years, which is kind of strange for me to draw these "persons" again.
Let me go
http://zindy-zone.dk/images/drawings/pencil/let_it_go_black_and_white.jpg

Felt like doing it in colour afterwards: My mom really liked this one so I gave it to her. She likes these kind of drawings the most as well as my darker gothic drawings, always found that kind of cool as she's my mom :) My dad on the other hand always liked my very realistic detailed drawings the most.

Once again Zindy, wonderful works. Dark Lily turned out amazing, and I really like Sweet Valentine, it is very quite sweet. :D
And I have never seen any of your train doodles before, or, atleast none that I can recall, but I like them a lot as well... Just something about them... :)
... I'm quite envious of you to be honest... I wish I could have such talent as you, and be able to be so diverse in the styles of which you draw...
But, once again, Aweesome new works! :aww:

BeautifulDisaster; :hug1: for your sweet words :)

My latest pin-up doll girl. I wanted to try some different colours this time, yet do it in the lines of the previous 2. I loved doing this one, it was a lot fun with the very red colour. My favourite part is the heart behind her, it adds something special to it I think.
She's made with Caran D'Ache colour pencils and Faber Castell colour pencils.

This is my traditional love drawing for Valentine's Day. It's based on my favourite photo of Anja-Amanda and Nicklas I took last spring. I think it's such a sweet moment captured. Like the first time you are passionated with the one you love.
I dedicate the drawing to all the lovers out there as well as all of you who's still waiting for the one :love5:

Thank you much :aww:

Mike, I am surprised you remember :O Sometimes I feel you remember my work better than I do.

My latest work; The Broken Chain.
I won't say too much about this drawing as I want you to make your own thoughts and interpretations of it.
I started the drawing in January and just recently finished it as I decided on the background. I originally intended something slightly different but I am happy with the end result as it has the mood I was hoping for (original idea was a snowscape).
As always the drawing is a mix of imaginary elements and realism.
I wanted the colour scheme to be rather pale and not too bright and strong in colour to match the mood. The outfit is based on my own, I like this elegant simple look.

I really enjoy studying the sky and how it changes with different weather. I have quite the collection of sky photos and I look through them whenever I am going for a certain mood. There is something very free about drawing skies.

Made with colour pencils and pastels.

Very nice work. What would be interesting is to hide words or little images in her hair that you don't really see unless you look very closely. I know, a little off the wall, but I've seen it done by other artists and it's pretty interesting.

Thank you girls - and boys ;)

James, it did indeed. The model is Anja, my friend I often use to pose for me. She's very pretty and I can see what you mean with a resemblance to Emilie De Ravin :)

Jeff, glad you mention those as I felt they added something important as well. My first thought was making them light pink, similar to my Spring Kitten but I think it's good I went with the all black and white :)

BeautifulDisaster, trust me they are not nice, they ruin pretty much most of your day when you have one :/

My latest Vampire, a rather quick one. I needed to do something when having a break in the migraines:
Blood Red Midnight

I thought I would post my WIP, been working on it for long. Debbie took some photos for me to use for another flower girl alike girl (I do know Ivies are not a flower). She is such a pretty and unique girl, one I wish I could actual photograph in real life, would be amazing. Now I just need to motivate myself to actual finish it.

I haven't given up on the redhead just yet, I just need a little break I think, just not too long :)

Last night I felt like cuteness was coming and I felt like using my colour pencils a bit. I used a reference for the pose but clothing, hair, ears, bobbles and the rest is just imagination. I basically just needed the right posture for her.
I really had much fun drawing her, what can I say, I love cute things and pink. I have a little fascination with cosplay. The girl isn't any specific character though.
It's a rather small drawing, a little under 8x11".
I used colour pencils and soft pastels.

Thank you, I am glad you liked my bubbly drawing, it was a joy to create. Lately I haven't had much time to draw but I have some drawings already posted on my website + I decided to do a new Jessica Alba/Dark Angel drawing, which has really been years. I can't help but think back to the time when I drew her so so much, it was crazy but I really did love it back then. The new drawing is based on a screen capture with the teary eyes and running tear added to make the expression stronger.

Love the slightly 'shimmer' factor in your works. The third drawing is my favorite o the uploads. It's like a canopy of leaves but in a hair form and when I slowly scan my eyes downwards, it's like a suprise underneath all that. Great use of the red in your vampire too! Thanks for sharing Zindy ^^

Thanks Debbie and Jeff, I enjoyed much working on it =)

I felt like another darker charcoal drawing with an emotional theme. The drawing is about how you sometimes fail to do what you feel you should and what feels right... You feel like you are losing a part of yourself when you compromise. It's something I have struggled with a lot in my life; to find a balance and to find myself and what I truly desire.

This is the latest drawing of mine in progress. I spend the weekend with my friend and we did a lot of new photos in the garden. I am very pleased with the shoot we did as it was very natural and pure.
I thought I would post this wip as I like this stage. The drawing will be faded to white with just a bit of detail on the cherry blossoms. I love creating these drawings with less shading and much white space, it's a nice contrast to my very dark full shaded drawings.

The cherry blossoms are not here for much longer I am afraid which is a pity, I love them, they represents this early spring where everything is so new and not so hot yet.

I really am back to my black and white charcoal drawing these days, I really love it. Especially the light I enjoyed studying and recreating here:

Your free spirit drawing is gorgeous. I suppose I understand how you feel about what scanning makes it look like, don't we always have that issue....?
But I don't care now, because I can still see how pretty it is. As Val said, the blossoms are really pretty, a great add :)

The newest drawing is beautiful, too. Of course the dress caught my eye first, the folds being so mesmerizing. Best, though, is the meaning of the drawing.. totally feeling like that..
