I'm so sorry that I didn't comment earlier. Your drawings are really amazing what should I say more? I wonder if you ever make it to galleries & museums? if not, please do. Oh right, I may gain the corrage & start drawing again :D I don't care what everyone thinks about it :) I only care about people with sense & great art.
Keep the good work forever,
Carla

What I like most about your work in general is that it's so diverse and yet each and every drawing has that clear 'Zindy touch' to it. You inspire me, and many others.

Thank you much guys, Ive been very much into drawing Cherry Blossoms and Satin dresses/folds at the moment for some reason, maybe because they are both so pretty?:)

Hi Carla, so good to see you back, please stay and keep painting :heart1:
Thank you for the wonderful words. No I don't, I am not very good at getting out there so to speak... wish I was better at that.

I haven't been drawing much lately but somehow I managed to complete a few colour drawings, just because I needed to get back to it and the pinup type girls are a great exercise for me. I've loved black and white lately.

Awakening Spring Fairy:
My new fairy is one I have been working on for a while. Its special to me in the sense that I love spring and cherry blossoms. They somehow remind me of something safe and beautiful, something new yet familiar and peaceful. I wish spring could remain for longer and sadly cherry blossoms always disappear so fast. Nothing is more beautiful than the early spring where everything starts to live again. I often connect spring and fairies, as I can imagine all the little fairies awakening and starting to bring life to nature.
The model is my beautiful friend, Andy, from a photo shoot we did.

I finished a new drawing in the flower girls series; White Rose. I used the cute Ester as model for this one.
I used a bunch of my new Derwent Pastel colours. The art store had a lot of them on sale, and while I already have a few of them I bought a bunch more in different colour tones and they turned out to work great with my rougher paper. I guess I will be using them more than I used to now I got more colours to choose from.
Thank to Ester for taking the reference photo for me.
Made with soft pastels.

I guess it's time to start posting my work at the forum again :)
This is a gift for my little niece, Mandy. I wanted to keep the colour theme in purple tones, mostly a warmer purple. I tried creating the wings in purple colours as well, as oppose to the normal neutral colours I use for wings. Mandy just had her room purplelized and I felt she should have a little drawing to go with it. Something really cute, dreamy and with bubbles - She loves soap bubbles and whenever I see bubbles it reminds me of her in summertime. She really is the cutest little girl, my sister is lucky to have such an adorable girl. I've posted a few photos of her in my photo thread.
The drawing is done with colour pencils only, on Lana drawing paper.

The reference is from Pops here at the forum, she posted it in my search of a "girl holding kitty" photo last year. Since it was gone from the thread I decided to post it here for comparison :)

You can't guess how I was feeling when I saw this on my DA watchlist Zindy. I didn't think you'd actually use it, and I'm very glad it was as a gift for little Mandy. She looks like a warm, lovely child and she sure deserves it. I hope it will bring her luck in the future.
This photo is so special for me. The title you gave to the drawing suits it perfectly, and I -in fact, let's just say...Thank you. So very much. I love it already.
Do you mind if I buy a print of it sometime in the future, if not for the moment ? I'd love to have this on my wall to remind me of my little pet every time I'd look at it.

09-23-2010, 01:25 PM
Pops, I am glad you like it. Oh yes, I always planned to do so I just sometimes take a long time to get the perfect idea for a photo. That's often how I work.
I am glad you like the drawing and you are of course welcome to do that :aww:
Thanks Natje, it's one of the most challenging drawings when you work from half blurry photographs but it leaves much to your imagination which is a great exercise.
This is the cute little Mandy, a drawing I did for my sis's boyfriend in August, as a gift for his dad. It made me happy to hear how touched his dad was to receive the drawing, makes it all worth it. It's always hard for me to draw family because I demand much more of myself to do it perfect, add that to my already perfectionism with art and a lot of other things. But they all loved it and that was just great :aww:

The drawing for your niece looks nice. But I think the kitten looks more like a wolven whelp. Maybe it is a perspective problem. Either it fits, so do not worry about it. Love the last drawing of the kid; has alot of soul in it...as usual... ;)
Zindy
09-23-2010, 09:24 PM
Thanks guys and Mike you are not the first to say it's a whelp. I laughed the first time I read someone thinking it wasn't a kitty because it shows how bad I did trying to make the kitty long haired :)
There is an issue with the eyes, not sure how I messed that up but I guess that doesn't change the fact it looks like puppy. Either way Mandy was happy to see it so I guess she can choose whether it's a kitty or puppy :)

The drawing of your niece is absolutely lovely! The white spots in the eye and on the lips make it so lifelike. I'd loved to know whether you used white gel-pen for that, but of course you don't need to tell your secret recipes.;)

I've been working on this new piece for the past 4 days. It's going to be quite dark in both drawing style and theme. The colour theme is going to be black/white/purple. I don't use these colours together too often, thought it would be a nice change.
I'm creating her with colour pencils and Lana sketch paper.
I want it to go in line with Lost Dreams, one of my most personal drawings, as well as Dark Hope. The "checkered floor" series :)

Anwyay, back to the drawing. I reallllyyyy like it. Purple normally isn't a favorite color choice of mine but I like how you incorporated it into this drawing. She is really beautiful and the dark wings make it look mysterious. As well as her dark makeup.

Thank you for the encouragement, I am almost done with the background at this point, I think about 8 hours went into the background alone + half my purple colour pencil :D Needless to say I am pretty tired of drawing purple. I am anxious to finish it off soon as I know I will soon reach the point where I get bored of working on it. I don't want this to happen with this one.

Wow, gr8 piece of Art, lol I see that I've inspired you, with drawing ( Raven ) black wings ^5. I'll post your comment. I love this drawing lol I see my daughter in it. would love to buy this print from you. actually I want to buy 2 prints one for me and 1 for her.
Zindy It's great work, I like your darker style, the wings of the black and white drawings looks incredible so far, very soft but realistic at the same time. Hope to see more of your work.
PS, sorry I just have to say this, You drew my daughter, she has green eyes etc and those lips r her's, I have picture you will also trip out like me, you didn't even realize it. lol awesome brb with picture of her, also she is the one that is heart broken in my thread. with my drawing of her hold out her hand with her heart in it.
Photos of my daughter you'll laugh. and what even funnier is that she dyed her hair black in these pictures, her real hair colour is dark dirty blonde brown. just like your drawing.

It's been a while since I posted my work here, pretty much haven't since I moved. Amazing how long time it actually takes to get everything in order and feel at home. I loved it here since the very beginning but just now begin to feel I know things and after my break last week I feel so much better and filled with energy. Sometimes a break really does one good =)
Ironside, pretty daughter you have :) The wings are supposed to be dark angel wings, in the lines of my other dark angels, the purple were to match the background.
I'd like to try drawing a crow sometime, lately I have become more positive about them, I've always found them kind of scary.
This drawing is special to me as it's of my little brother Benjamin and his Jack Russell, Balloo. It shows a different side that not too many see of my brother. He's always been this cute little baby boy and now he is 17 and I sometimes wonder where time went... for me he will always be my innocent baby brother though he isn't anymore.
I took a photo of him and Balloo late at night some months ago. It turned out all grainy but I loved the pose and mood so much I wanted to do a drawing of it and give it to him.
It's done with charcoal and is 21x29.7cm (8x11")

A great drawing, especially if the reference was such bad quality. I really like it =) Also If I think about it- I never consciously knew you had a brother, although facebook tells me it is even two? ;) I think it's always nice to draw real people that you know rather than celebrities or such.
This one turned out great :)

Interesting drawing. I like the dark moodiness of it, and the texture. Not sure if the texture is your drawing technique or the paper, but I like it. The fur is great too. And it's interesting to see the dog as the main subject. Well done.

Thanks Natje and Joane, I do have 2 yes, one just turned 18 this summer and one is 29 :)
Jeff, it was indeed the paper creating the textures. I believe I was still using the very smooth drawing paper at this time. I recently started using grainier paper for my latest charcoal work and I really like that, it's interesting to work on.
I thought I should start posting a bit of my work here again to get some feedback. Especially since I started focussing more on portraits lately as I'd really like to be strong in that area again. When you work more with using photos as a base and not so much catching a likeness I find it actually gets harder when you have to a portrait again. Portraits were my first love.
Here's 2 I did of my niece. Both are very different. I had her pose at the window this summer and one just got the perfect longing expression. She's so beautiful and expressive and I hope I will be able to use her much more in the future.

Really beautiful, as always ;) I wonder Zindy, the paper you used on f.e. 'Waiting for daddy', is this the grainier papier you mentioned and have you used anything kind of similar before? I noticed your drawings nearly always seem to have some texture over them. Or is it the pencils?
And I thought you might be able to answer a question on colored pencils, I bought this small set of Derwent skin tone colors but I still can't start doing portraits because I simply don't have other natural tones for eyes and hair. Didn't you use Derwents too? What colors or tones d'you consider crucial for doing colored portraits?

This is what I am currently working on, something I feel good about, it has that atmosphere of loneliness to me. It's taken with my phone and therefore very grainy. I am very close to the end by now.
http://zindy-zone.dk/images/drawings/wip/frozen_hearts_wip_x.jpg
Chantal; Yes, it's the same paper I used, the grainier one. I found that I like to work on this grainy paper much better than the super smooth. I feel it's much more interesting to work with and it does have a bit of structure which I am not normally too fond.
I actually mainly use Caran d'Ache (supracolor) and Faber Castell (polychromos) when it comes to colour pencils, and lately Luminance. Uh to be honest I got ohh so many by now, are you thinking of specific tones, like brown, bluish...? I'd be happy to advice on what I use it's just that my list is so long. I generally have many greys and browns, pretty much every shade you can get.

Can't believe it's already been 3 months since I updated my thread here. It's crazy how time flies, sure has been a busy year so far.

One
Sometimes when things are going down hill consistently and you can't seem to save or hold on to the things you love in life you have no other choice but to go back to where it all started.
Find yourself, the passion and start all over.
In many ways this is a symbolic and personal piece for me.
I've always had this love/fascination but at the same time fear of the ocean. It's so magnificent and holds so many secrets and undiscovered wonders.
I can watch nature programs endlessly, especially the coral reefs and the deep ocean fascinates me.
I kind of feel one with the ocean.
The sepia is for the antique/old look and part of the symbolism.

These drawings of yours have a fantastic emotional impact. That is your power...always have been and I still believe that.
I have mixtured feelings with this, cause these drawings are very depended on the mood you're in. Unfortunately, it is mostly a sad mood and that means you're not doing too well. :(
