Hello *waves*

I hope you are all well.

I have been a silent watcher of this wonderful little community for a few months now and have been absolutely amazed by the sheer amount of talent on display. Today I thought it was about time I stood out from the shadows and started to share my appreciation... and whilst I’m at it i thought i'd share some of my arty things.

I have only recently started to draw again, I must admit I had always deemed art as a hopeless aspirations as it has always been cast aside throughout my childhood. But... At the start of this year I decided enough was enough. It has always been my dream, my passion, and my heart felt empty without it so I decided to dedicate my time and energy on creating new work and pursuing an art career.

I am very pleased and delighted to say that since then i've created some of my best work, have received some amazing feedback from fellow talented artists and have even uncovered an incredible illustration job opportunity!

I think it just goes to show no dream is ever too distant as long as out hearts are in the right place.

Anyhoo! Please excuse my rambles and I hope you like my artwork. At the very least, it has been wonderful - finally - being a part of this inspiring community.

About Plars

Below are some artwork and two poems about my 'Plar' characters. They are my own little characters who I adore and am currently writing two children's books about. They are intriguing little creatures. Beneath their small and fragile form… and past their big alluring eyes… is a courageous and determined spirit. I hope you like them...

Plar Poem:

Beautifully Blue

Rather then fearing the great white shark,
The Plar appreciates the serenity of this underwater lark.
Silver airy-fabrics swish and swirl,
Along the ocean tides whilst particles float and whirl.
As the Plar peers through its misty gaze,
It sees shadowy shapes blend into the gloom of crystal caves.
Everything is coated by a shimmering wet light,
The Plar reveals a torch to help its sight.
The atmosphere thickens as it descends slowly,
Into the depths of the deep it drifts almost blindly.
The Plar sinks deeper discovering a lost world,
Through black and darkness the mystery unfolds.
Beyond temple ruins and hidden artefacts,
It sees a dinosaur graveyard which reveals their tracks.
In the black abyss where no light does subsist,
Here is life including a translucent jellyfish.

Twilight Tapestry

A Plar wakes on a bed of petals in the outta reaches of space
It feels confused and unsettled
Yet strangely at grace.
A light glows in the distance like an oval jewel
Marbled with colour
Radiant and sea-blue.
The brightest colours melt atop the twilight tapestry
Sprinkles and Sparkles
In all their majesty
Above distant planets collide and buckle together
They rotate and revolve
Slipping and sliding past each other
Whether it is a twinkling star or a blinking eye
Everything moves smoothly together
Twisting, warping and rushing by
It is Beauty trapped and harnessed by emotion
Like a droplet of light
Rippling across a black ocean.

Hi Adam, welcome to the forums! :D It's great that you followed your dream.

Your Plars are simply adorable!
And I love this one. Is it computer made?

Hello Jeanine, thank you for your kind words :-)

The picture above is called, "Darkness... and Pain" . It was first drawn in pen and coloured in colouring pencils, and then i gave it a splash of polish in photoshop.

All of my animals are with pencil only, and my plars are always drawn with blue biro pen.

My other works are drawn with either a pencil or pen initially, however I do then cleaned them up digitally. Sometimes, like in the picture you favoured, i will use photoshop to enhance my drawing by bringing out the darker shades or highlighting the existing colours, like the red for example.

Thank you again for your vote of confidence. I love your work too by the way

Loved to read your rambles, they make me wonder why someone like you doesn't have an artistic or creative profession ;) You should think about it :p

Oh my goodness... Thank you so much everyone.

Its incredible to see what wonderful response my little Plars are getting... and i'm very happy people like my animals too. I have always had a strong passion for animals so i hope that comes through in my drawings for them. I have never been taught how to draw (i havent even got a GCSE in Art!)so its always so amazing when people say they like my work. Helps me to feel like i'm doing something right!

What i do find exciting is that most of my recent artwork has been created very quickly and often by me just playing around with ideas and styles and not really concentrating a great deal... Now though i feel like i'm ready to get back to the drawing board in a serious way so am very excited about doing my next works. I hope you like them too...

As for my Plars... I have literally drawn hundreds of them over the years... But there are certainly more to come, lots more! The ones here are just little sketchy things so i'm looking forward to drawing some more complete plar drawings soon. I have already prepared some drafts and cant wait to get them finished.

Thank you again everyone for your wonderful supporting words x

The tree in the one picture blew me away!
I really think you have a great talent! :D

Thank you :-)

That tree was drawn with a blue biro pen... I hadn't drawn with one for a while so it started as a quick sketchy thing - with no real intent - but then it gradually became a tree! I really like that one too... I'm hoping to draw that again sometime soon, only improved of course. :-)

Your work is really good and it's great to see how diverse you are, you seem to be able to do a lot of different type of arts. I really adore the kittens, so well done and overly cute :)

I liked your words as well, you really can achieve much if you love it and work hard at it.

I hope to see more of your art, you are definitely talented.

Hello everyone.

I hope you are all well, and those in the UK, i hope you are enjoying this unusually beautiful weather! Please forgive my absence from the site (not that anyone would notice mind!) but things have been terribly busy. Still, i've recently finished a new picture and thought i'd share it. Its of a horse, and i had never drawn one of those until now... and i have to admit i found it a very difficult animal to tackle. Its not perfect, but overall i'm pleased with the final result. I drew this with 2H, HB and 3B pencils only.

Yeah i do like him :) Horses are difficult, not to say odd-looking animals, i think. You made it lok very real, he looks sweet. A bit fluffy ears though, but maybe it's some sort of race i don't know. (i can just tell the difference between a pony and horse ^^)
