Hey Everyone
I'm a new member here, I think Zindy is absolutely fantastic. Anyway, heres a drawing i'm in the middle a doing (its supposed to be christina aguilera, and its actually on A4 paper but i had to resize it). Could someone help me, there is definitely something wrong with it, but i can't work out what. I'm reluctant to continue until I know. Well, please help! Thanx

Hi.. I really like your drawing. But it looks so dark, I don't know if that happened because of the scanner, but the picture is not that dark. :)

Yeah, it was made slightly darker by the scanner for some reason, but it is quite dark anyway. I kinda chose to do it that way as well, because i wanted to make it a bit more sinister than it is (thinking of replacing the glass with a web, with spiders and stuff). I think the nose is a bit lopsided though :? . I think i've been looking at it for too long. Everything seems wrong now.  Oh dear. Thankyou btw.

Don't get disheartened.
Try looking at it upside-down or view it through a mirror. This will help you see it differently. The nose is OK but the eyes are too close together and the mouth needs to be a bit wider.

Have another go but this time lightly sketch in the whole face first so that you can get the proportions right. Then start on the shading. I like the idea of adding a web design with spiders. :)

To me, the skin looks a bit like wood :) No offence.... Maybe you could smoothen the texture of the skin with something soft like a tissue... Just a tip :)

I know....it looks a bit weird. But I was trying a different material to what i normally use, black coloured pencil, i usually use charcoal or pencil for black and white pictures. Its impossible to smudge. I think it has been declared a disaster. Ah well, thanks for the help everyone!

I LIKE the texture, it looks interesting! I donīt think that it looks like wood
A drawing not always have to look smooth....

I agree with Hexe. I prefer drawings that have texture or show the pencil marks. Producing smooth drawings can look too much like photographs.

ooooh cool - thanks hexe and Art15 - perhaps i will continue instead of abandoning this drawing. I find it really hard to find time to draw these days :( , damn GCSEs, so I have to really like a drawing to finish it. Most of the drawings i did last year and so far this year are half finished. I hope you don't think i'm a quitter. It would be ok if they gave us good topics for art GCSE, but so far they have been rubbish. I can't work any of them around to be able to draw things i like.

:D I know that feeling.
Have have not had time to draw for a couple of months due to work commitments. I'm now getting itchy fingers and plan to start drawing again. I find it easier to go with the flow and draw when you feel like it

I love your drawing although it doesn't really look like christina.
I think you should just keep drawing further and just do what you feel is right because it has a really good sfere in the drawing :D It doesn't always have to look like reality that is the cool thing about art  keep up the good work!!! can't wait to see the result :D
